1
Drag and drop your .mov file onto the page or click to browse. You can select several MOV files at once to batch-convert them.
2
The output format is already set to AVI, so you can convert immediately. If you need to, adjust the codec, resolution or bitrate in the settings panel first.
3
Click Convert. The AVI file is processed on your own device; nothing is uploaded to a server. Each file is saved to your downloads as soon as it finishes (for several files your browser may ask to allow multiple downloads).
Some Windows applications, DVD players and industrial or medical equipment still expect AVI. Converting MOV to AVI packages your QuickTime footage with H.264 video and MP3 or AC3 audio in the container those systems understand.
The conversion runs in your browser and keeps the original resolution unless you change it. AVI files are slightly larger than MOV for the same content.
MOV (QuickTime File Format): MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. iPhones, iPads and Final Cut Pro record and export MOV natively, and it can hold high-quality H.264, HEVC or ProRes streams. It is best for Apple devices, iMovie and Final Cut Pro workflows.
AVI (Audio Video Interleave): AVI (Audio Video Interleave) is Microsoft's classic container from the early Windows era. It is still recognised by almost every Windows program and older media player, though its files tend to be large. It is best for legacy Windows software and older hardware players.
In short: keep MOV when the priority is Apple devices, iMovie and Final Cut Pro workflows, and switch to AVI when the file is headed for legacy Windows software and older hardware players. Need a different target? The full Video Converter supports every format listed below.
Yes. AVI with H.264 video and MP3 audio plays in Windows Media Player on Windows 10 and 11 and in VLC everywhere.
Not at the default settings for an H.264 MOV: the picture is copied into the AVI unchanged and only the audio is re-encoded to MP3 or AC3. iPhone HEVC clips are re-encoded to H.264, since AVI does not take HEVC here, and lowering the bitrate or resolution also re-encodes the video.
Yes. Converting MOV to AVI on Convertor.video is completely free, with no watermark, no sign-up and no daily conversion limit.
No. The converter runs inside your browser using WebCodecs and FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your .mov file is read and converted on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which keeps private recordings private and means there is no waiting in an upload queue.
There is no plan or account limit, but the converter loads the whole MOV file into your browser's memory, so about 2 GB per file is the practical ceiling; larger files may fail to open. Long or high-resolution files also take longer, especially on phones.
It is built and tested on current desktop Chrome and Edge, which are also fastest because they expose hardware-accelerated WebCodecs video decoders. Recent Firefox and Safari releases support the same web APIs; if a file fails there, try Chrome or Edge.
